I got my first band of season this morning. A blue-winged teal. It's one of the AVISE BIRD BANDS which are no longer in use and older (so the website said). Does anyone know how long ago they stopped using this kind? I'm interested to see the report. Put mine in online, much easier than explaining it over the phone, but will have to wait 3 weeks for certificate.

Congrats on the Bluewing band Sage! it's possible that the bird might be 5+ years old.

Unfortunately my band info seems like it is going to be delayed or non existant. Here is the problem:
"Thank you for your recent report of band 0855-44607.
Unfortunately, we cannot process your report immediately. This is due to one or both of these reasons:
1. The bander has not yet submitted the data for this band so we are unable to process your report at this time. 2. There is a discrepancy or potential error in your report that will place it in a hold file until time allows us to work on resolving it.
In the case of the banding data not currently being available, the bander is being notified that a recovery of one of their bands has occurred, along with a request that they submit the banding data as soon as possible. We are not always successful with our first attempt to obtain the banding data, but we do send second and third requests beginning a month after the first request was sent. Occasionally the bander has the band in their possession or has lost the banding data due to extenuating circumstances and we will not be able to process your report. If this is the case, you will be notified. If there are no errors in the encounter report when the banding data is received, it will automatically be processed and your certificate of appreciation will be sent
In the case where there is a discrepancy or potential error in your report, we may need to contact you for further details on the encounter.
If some time has passed and you have not received your certificate, please do not report the band again, as this will just slow the process further. Instead, please contact us via e-mail or phone, and we will be happy to provide an update on the progress of your report.
Thank you for reporting this band encounter to us. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or comments.
Please confirm the details that were submitted below and if you notice any errors, please contact us by replying to this email with history."
I double checked everything before I sent it online, but will verify again. Has anyone else had similar troubles?

Re-sent the band info, hopefully it goes through. Got my second band of they year Saturday morning on a black duck. I tried to take a picture of my buddies $ band with the pellet embedded only to find out the marsh claimed another camera, didn't drown this one, but over abused it. I will get one though. Here is a bad picture I took the other day, will replace when I get a better one.

I have got that before, generally its a result of a bird that was banded this year and the bander has not submitted all the paperwork. It will likley follow up after the details are submitted.
Congrats, 2 bands in 2 outings is impressive!!!

I got the same "sorry letter" reply from my Oct. 11 band as well, this I can understand as it was a juvenile black duck so I figured the paperwork may not have gone through on this one. The first was an AVIS band which is no longer in use, so could be a case of lost information, which I hope is not the case.

I got a Canada Goose on October 4th that was banded in Ontario (2006) according to the website, but still received the same email. A $100 Reward Greenhead was nice enough to drop into my spread on the 20th. He as banded in Nova Scotia (2005) and again received the same email.
There wasn't a way to enter the county online, so I repied to each one and gave them the info. I think it is a standard reply due to the great volumes of band information being submitted daily. I expect to see the certificates in he next couple of weeks.
I figure the Canada was a relocated bird to New Brunswick. A friend mine who is an avid hunter and birder guessed that it was an Ontario bird because of it's size (13.0 lbs) before I reported the band.

Although 3 in a row is a bit out of the norm, if you are getting the birds in an area close to where they were banding, it may just be a case of they have not got all of the banding info in yet. I have encountered that in the past when I did a lot of hunting in the Oromocto area. A lot of the time they band right to the cut of period, so the data does not get submitted and compiled till well after the season starts.
Or it may just be that there is a bottleneck in the system, you will get your details, it may just take a bit.
