I will soon start training my chessie for retrieving using 12 GA blanks. What are the rules & regulations? Do I need a special permit to shoot blanks?

Thanks for the quick reply! I'm from Shediac NB. I'll have to check with the N.B. Department of Natural Resources to see if we can acquire something similar to this "Dog Training In Wildlife Habitat Permit" that you have in N.S.

I know Ed is now carrying dummy launchers...actually he just received mine today and I'm just waiting for the final price...It's another option for training....

I just bought $200 worth of Avery bumpers from Ed. Those launchers would sure be nice to have. They can fire blanks as they launch the bumpers. But unless you have more than one launcher, it would only be useful doing single retrieves. You'd need 2 or 3 to do doubles and triples. For now I'll bring a couple of friends as gunners and use the shotgun blanks. Attachments:

Not every retrieve is at 100-200 yrds so a couple close in throws of say 30-40 yrds combined with a long launched one would be effective. if ya had 3-4 really long retrieves your training session would be not so long ;D

Hey Ed! I had to negotiate with my wife in order to get he layout blind and dog blind that I'm buying at Dux-N-Dogs. If I came home with a bumper launcher she'd probably use it to shoot me in the head! : ) How far can those launchers shoot the bumpers? I saw a Sit Means Sit video, he was using a Thunder 100 launcher. The guy had his retriever on sit command, he'd walk out probably 50 yd, then shoot 2 bumpers, walk back to the dog and sent him to retrieve. takes lots of time! www.youtube.com/watch?v=pH6WColBW9s

Watched the video - Cant say I cared for it and this is not biased towards the product I sell . Didnt like the fact it is run on gas and also i didnt like the size of that thing and it didnt really look like it launched them all that far. videos have a way to make thing look far. my 2 cents
