For you guys that are familiar with the Musquodobit Harbor area I seen an article in the chronicle Hearald that may be of interest to you. 55-hectare tract in Musquodoboit Harbour nabbed at tax sale. Here is the article - I am not familiar with "The Nature Conservancy of Canada". Is this a good thing?? thechronicleherald.ca/NovaScotia/1217429.html

I thought the same thing Shermie, $87,000, that's insane !!! What a steal, shhh..shhhh!!! That could have been a Delta Waterfowl haven, the future of waterfowl and waterfowl hunting!! I can't be quick to judge as I know nothing about the Nature Conservancy of Canada but I did not get the same warm fuzzy I would have had if it said purchased by "Delta Waterfowl" , or better yet by an unknown group of waterfowl enthusiast called the "Beaudog Group"!! I was curious if people were made aware of the opportunity? From the photo it sure looks like an absolutely beautiful area for waterfowl!!

From what little I know about the NCC I would venture to say that you could do worse in terms of who bought it. They are not, in principle, opposed to hunting. From what I can tell, they are not in the business of restricting hunting from happening on the lands that they own. If they limit it at all, they seem to more often limit the way that hunting happens (non-motorized, for example) if they view the traditional approaches (motorized) to be detrimental to the ecosystem/habitat or disruptive to other uses. I tried for a few years to keep up to date with these tax sales (smaller properties, mind you) but they always seemed to be over by the time I found out about them. Sure would be a way to pick up a little slice of paradise for a good price some day!

"Sure would be a way to pick up a little slice of paradise for a good price some day!" Certainly if your looking for partners in some future venture I'd certainly be interested in the idea . I got burned during the tech bubble and always said if my monies had been spent on terra firma at least at the end of the day I could have walked on it rather than lining some fat cat nortel pockets

That is a sweet deal for sure! I have good news though- Croc is right. NCC very rarely restricts hunting access and actually partners with Ducks Unlimited on a regular basis. I have an 'in' at the local office here in BC and know that several of the staff are avid hunters and fishermen. Hunt away boys!
