With very wet weather on the way I woke this morning to the weatherman on the radio saying that it was -5 Celsius in upper Stewiacke. Even in the city it was dry and clear and there was a good frost down. If there was ever a day cut out for hunting pheasant over a flushing dog with a good nose this was it. Hmmmmmm….what to do? Booted up the computer, logged on at work and booked the morning off. I did not regret it… Ruby hunted beautifully and put up a good number of birds for me. After a few that did not present safe shots (low over the dog, then crossing towards the farmhouse) I was rewarded for my patience with enough great flushes for me to pick out my finest pair of roosters to date. What a morning! Ruby is right on the money this year - only took me 5 years! lol! -Croc

And not to be outdone..... Jake and I headed out this morning for a rooster hunt following on the heels of my hunting partner's success. We only had an hour before the sky opened up and we hit the best cover we could find. Jake put up 8 hens and 2 big roosters in less than an hour. He worked great with a strong SE wind in his face. The pheasants were hunkered down in anticipation of the storm and were holding VERY well. One of the best upland hunting hours of my life!

WTG Take'em, but I GOT MINE FIRST! LOL!
Another pair of MONSTER roosters - nicely done! Glad you found the hens too. I was a bit worried yesterday when it was nothin' but roosters. Always nice from a hunting point of view but makes me worry about next year if there aren't any hens around. Guess we'll have to leave a few roosters though - lol!

Glad to see the renaissance preforms as good as it looks!! Ha, I wish! I took my semi because of the rain. Turned out I didn't see a drop the entire time I was in the field. Oh well, the Franchi will have its time, I have no doubt. BTW, the rooster count for 2010 is as follows: Croc 4 Take'em 2 M&R ?

Pretty sure you could use saran wrap on the Renaissance next time it rains...too nice a gun to sit in the cabinet!! My rooster tally is nonexistant so far.I've been spending my Saturdays freezing my nuts off in a tree stand watching squirrels eat my apples. Rileys getting pissed and I don't blame em.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is a really debilitating disease and we should not make fun of those who suffer from it............................... All that I can say is this - I hope for a few sunny days in November with some nice soft grassy cover and we may just get to see the renaissance in action! lol! -Croc
