My missus needs a new shotty before waterfowl season this year so we went down to the local gun shop and she tried every different manufacturer they had. She tried both pumps and semis and had three favorites in the end: -mossberg 835 pump in synthetic ~440$ -baikal semi in nice wood ~560$ -browning silver hunter in very nice wood ~1050$ She shoots a pump right now and has no trouble with 3" loads if shes wearing a coat. Lately she has been shooting clay loads in a tank top, and it seems to be more fun for me than it is for her. She really liked the Browning but found the Mossy to be the lightest to carry/mount and its LOP is a tad shorter. I'm wondering if the Baikal isnt the best $/gun deal of the three. Any experiences with these? Any opinions? PS. They didn't stock any extremaII at the shop The guy says no one out here uses them so there is no demand.

Had an 835 it lasted one season before I got rid of it. Didn't like it had a problem with dumping shells out the bottom, I think this is because I short pumped the gun. I found it kicked a bit hard as well. I found the stroke long and I'm 6'7".
I own a silver now and other than it having a tendency to rust I would say to buy this gun. The recoil is a lot less I would even say it comes close to the extrema with kick off.
One other thing Jaydog about the 835 you will apreciate her not buying it because your ears won't like the ported barrel.

If it were me Jay, I'd get the Silver. I own one in 3.5 MODB and it is very soft-shooting. I've also shouldered the Silver Hunter in 20 gauge and it's a beautiful gun. With all of the hunting Croc and I put it through last year (including Fundy, and you know ALL about that ), I had ZERO malfunctions and some excellent success. IMO, she'll be happier with a reliable semi in the long run.
