Those are some fine-looking trout Take'em. The shot in your backyard looks like a real monster! You don't catch em like THAT every day. Well, I don't anyways! lol! -Croc

I don't either Croc. That was the first trout "of any significance" that I've seen since my trip to Eagle River, Labrador where you could land as many brookies as you wanted in the 4-7lb range. That fish was 16" long, 2" across the back and weighed in at 2.0lbs. My Dad landed one earlier that day that weighed about 1.25lbs and he said there were larger ones in there. I didn't believe him until I saw this thing! Caught him slow-trolling a minnow at a depth of about 3'. It took 5 minutes to land him and he actually made a couple of runs. To come out of the lakes that I fish, he was truly a trophy.

I've caught two 16" trout in the last 5 years, and they were both early season "snakes". Certainly, neither one weighted two pounds! The nicest fish I've boated here was caught by the wife - a hook-jawed fish on just over 14 inches but like your's - a real football! Weirdest thing - we were paddling back to the island where we were camped and her hands were too cold to paddle, so I tossed out a big rapala for a laugh, even though we were over 50 feet of water! I couldn't believe it when she hooked him out there where I'd never think to fish "on purpose"! Of course, I've trolled the middle of that lake many times since, and never a repeat performance!!! It was about a week after the last of the mayflies - guess he was out cruising after some kind of baitfish! Most exciting fish I've ever landed on a fly rod - 16 lb Arctic charr in '05. Unreal. -Croc

This one was "supposed" to be 20" male with a huge hooked jaw and a big ol humped back on it(mean lookin) and the taxidermist "made a mistake"...an expensive one for him I'll add (he already had a cash downpayment) He didn't want to keep it himself so I settled at a reduced rate. Caught this here in the valley on a cheapo rod/reel with half rotten 4lb test and a non workin drag and no net!! Spotted it in a pool and persisted with the only shiny lure available that I probably (until now) would have NEVER fished with before.Still have it and stil use it too

I'll BET you still use it! So was it a replicate mount that you were looking to have done, or did he get totally confused and really butcher your fish? Eiher way, even if it's not true to your memory of it, it's a nice wall-hanger! -Croc

OK, that char is unbelievable!!! I can't believe the intensity of those colours! You must have sh#t your pants when you landed that. Congrats! That's a trophy fish if I ever saw one. Well, I have to tell you, charr like that are not uncommon in the Tree River. We paid a crap-load of money to fly up there for 24 hours from the lodge on Great Bear. Myself and two other hard-core guys fished for 20 of those hours, stopping only to eat twice and to sleep for two hours with our waders on. I had a 10 weight rod with 15 lb tippet and that was the biggest one that I managed to land. I hooked a half-dozen bigger ones that SPANKED me. The Tree River is a raging torrent, and if they get out of the eddy and into the main channel your reel EXPLODES and it's all you can do to SPRINT downstream over a jumble of slippery rocks, risking death at every step. If you can haul him into the next eddy before you run out of backing you might have a chance while he's resting, but if not, you'd better hope that your heavy tippet breaks before your backing. My "bad-luck buddy" Andrew had his backip pop off at exactly the same time as his rod busted right above the cork - left him only with a rod butt, reel and a faceful of graphite dust! He got his revenge later - landed a 22 pound BRUTE, biggest of the trip. In all I hooked up 25 times, landing 16 of them, as well as a handful of (small) lake trout and a whitefish. The char in the photo was the biggest that I landed, but there was one proverbial "one that got away" that will haunt me forever. He was pure blaze orange end-to-end, and I'm going to take the liberty of saying that he was 25 lbs ;D. I've fished a lot of places, but if you told me I had a week to live, I'd say "Gather up my friend and family, we're going to the Tree River!". -Croc

He told me he couldn't get one 20" in male he would have had to have gone 21" thus costing me more money so HE settled for the female. My reply...ummmm you called me on the phone lastweek and told me it was ready, APPARENTLY you still have my #....a$$**** It wasn't a real pretty transaction from that point on. I gotta tell ya the male was a completely differant looking fish altogether and what the heck adding an extra inch here n there for fishers years down the road...well kinda hand in hand ain't it?...lol ;D Thats some perdy Char ya got there. Tried for them up north from the ship a few times never sucessful even if we had hooked one it would have never been landed.Anything for entertainment when anchored same spot for 2 months. Did do a fly in from Rankin Inlet for lakers one year biggest caught was 36" by another fella best $100 I ever spent and I tried on a day trip outside Rankin in some small rivers for Grayling, not much size to them but they can scrap in fast water. Most fight I've had yet was jigging these big squid off the side of ship @ night in the Gulfstream they averaged about 3ft long and although on a handline...holy smokes what a scrap!!! MMMM Calamari lots and lots of Calamari ;D These were hatching yesterday down by the river...if anyone wonderin.
