Given their lack of thumbs, it is very difficult to blame the dogs for my poor shooting . . .

Man, oh man, have I found the birds.
Out to the same spot on four different afternoons - some nice, some rainy. Never more than 3 hrs out, never less than 5 birds found (usually about 8 flushes). Some days don't even offer a shot, other days plenty (albeit I seem to need to sit down at the reloading bench again - many shots, not so many birds).
The new pup has really started to figure the upland thing out - but with this much good practice, I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Wish I could remember to take a camera!
Recipe for anyone shooting 28 ga - this really hits them hard out to 30-35yds:
3/4 oz of hard #6 (71/2 works too, but too light in my opinion for the odd rabbit silly enough to present itself, and 8s run out of steam for birds at about 25-30 yds) Win WAA28HS hull Win WAA28HS wad (or claybusters equiv, which is what I use) Win 209 primer 13.1gr Alliant Unique
This is the best load I have found for 28 ga to date - switch 6s for 8s and its my woodcock and target load as well.

P.S. - anyone who isn't entirely addicted to duckin' and wants to trade cammies for orange, give me a shout - still lots o birds to be had by all, especially if you shoot better than me!
