It's gonna be a long time waiting for the next waterfowl season. I checked out amazon to buy a couple of good duck and geese hunting books. The reviews where all over the place, I couldn't decide what to buy. So I'm turning to the well read and knowledgeable Beaudog community. What great book would you recommend? What did you like about the book? Thanking You in advance for your recommendations.

Hard to find waterfowl hunting books that are truly great cover to cover, IMO, but many people seem to write great essays/short stories on the subject. For me, I get my best off-season hunting reading in by reading the essays and short stories in "Grey's Sporting Journal". They can be anything from tarpon fishing to elephant hunting to doves in Argentina and anything else that you can imagine. They do a Bird Hunting Annual which will tend to have more waterfowl stuff in it, but I can't remember when that one comes out. Some of the other waterfowl specific hunting magazines have some good stuff in them too, but so much of it is flogging the latest gear, harping on land-use issues in the US, and so called "expert" advice on how to kill more ducks (which mostly tend to remind me of the saying that opinions are like arseholes! lol!). I enjoy reading hunting stories by Peter Hathaway Capstick. He's VEEEERY full of himself, but as long as you can get past that and not get too caught up in wondering how much of his adventures are true, I find them to be a great and entertaining read, even if they don't hurt your head too much! lol! I've got one that is specific to ducks - The Duck HUnters Book - Classic Waterfowl Stories. Edited by Lamar Underwood. I like that one. It's kinda old-school though - before all the big field spreads and layout blinds etc...
Post back with what you end up buying and what you think of it. Cheers, -Croc PS - the season's not done yet - still nearly a week to go! No time fo reading YET! lol!

Many moons back I got a book titled the "Duck Hunters Bible", that was a classic!!!! I was in chapters the other day and leafed through some very good waterfowl magazines they had in stock. Can't remeber the names but there were some good ones. It is always nice to receive the Delta magazine we receive as members!!

Thanks Duck for recommending "The Duck Hunter's Bible". I read some reviews, all positive, and found a site where you could read sections of the book. I liked what I read so I bought a used one on Amazon. They had new ones but all were over $100. I'd appreciate any other suggestions you guys might have for waterfowl hunting books. I'd like to buy one or 2 more. Chess Attachments:
