Well my season was over 5 minutes in ,out come a nice doe and the buckshot makes it thru the brush and finds there mark 4 pellets find her,,it wasnt the shot i expected ,i had a shot at her high and back part of ribs and i took it because;
We had a plan the first deer to come out with out a little one horns or not..I had to work in the afternoon as my whole season oct to nov vacation was canceled.So i wouldnt have the time to hunt like i usualy do look for horns.The bonus was there was no school on opening day ,you couldnt ask for a better chance to get a deer together.
we had put apples out for a bit together and we had lots of trail pics of deer and bears ,so come opening day she was excited to say the least.
out came the doe and as she moved thru the brush at the edge of the clearing i started to raise the shotgun when ever she was behind something.I was up and ready for when she would just walk 10 feet to have a broadside shot at 30 feet and then she hung up and was staring at us and she stamped her hoof ,this is when time slows down for this old seasoned hunter,i said in a blink if she flicks her tail im shootin ,she did and i did,because i knew the next instant she was gonna bounce away...there was high fives in our treestands .
Mickey wanted to go after it right away but i said no we have to wait for 1/2 an hour ,,so i hauled out the hot chocolate.after 10 minutes she asked is it time yet??well she couldnt wait much more and not wanting to loose the excitement we got down and i put her on the start of the trail and away she went following the sign which is hard withthe leaves the color they are..but she found the trail no problem she actualy saw blood on stuff i did`nt see [my eyes are going i fear]..right proud of her .
then we lost the sign and she marked her last sign with her hat and coco mug ,with out me saying anything ,but a big smile on my face,,we did a circle pattern and spooked 2 more deer and came back to find grandpy and the two of them commenced the trailing again and they found it in 5 minutes ,they was a big wohooo come out of her we got her dad heard as i made my way thru the thicket...
tho she has years to go to do it for herself for a 10 year old she did just fine,she was squimish at first but jumped in and help hold the legs for me while i was cleaning and then me and her dragged it out to the wheeler to take it home..
Grandpy wasnt gonna come up but surprized us and he was some happy to see Mickey and her first deer with us,you see she has come on opening day for a few years and we never got a chance to take a deer..so this was great all three of us together...
When we got home she got on the phone and called nanny to tell her all about our adventure.
heres one of the bears we named yogi
its all about passing it on the traditions of hunting
