Have you guys seen this new ammo Remington has just brought out?? Hypersonic Steel!!!!
This stuff looks like it's going to be awesome... I'm going to have to give it a try this fall...
I know the distributors have it and it should be available by fall...
Here's a clip on it...
The new 1,700-fps HyperSonic Steel,™ from Remington.® Introducing the world’s fastest, hardest-hitting steel. With unprecedented velocity and the highest downrange pattern energies ever achieved, new Remington HyperSonic Steel takes lethality to new heights and lengths. To a level of terminal performance where more birds drop with fewer shots, at the farthest reaches of your abilities. And only Remington has harnessed the wad technology to do it.
Shortens lead by up to 11% - an 8” lead difference at 40 yards Puts more pellets in the head and neck for quicker kills and fewer misses Patented Xelerator™ Wad 2 Stage System New HOTTER primer ignites small powder charge in chamber, moving entire payload forward slightly to control pressure.

I'm just waiting to hear back from Wad Wizard to see if it's compatable with their tubes since the wad seems to be a flight controlled wad..

I just found a few reviews on it as well and after reading them... I will try it but I'm likely not going to bother with it..
First and foremost.... I don't want to trade the Kent loads to gain a few more pellets on target and a little less lead to get 50% more recoil....From what I have read the 1 ¼ ounce Hypersonics will generate almost 50% more recoil than a “standard” 1450 fps 1 ¼ ounce high velocity steel load. Not worth it to me.. plus I use a Wad Wizard tube so I'd have to likely remove it and go with a factory tube since this ammo uses a flight control wad like the Blackcloud ammo.... plus it's $8-$9 a box more than the Kent loads I use now....
I'm still waiting on the official word from Wad Wizard to see if it is compatible with their tubes..

There is a pretty interesting thread about these shells over on the Refuge Forums. I just wanted to post some useful info. As Chezz has said there is a lot more recoil due to them using 49.1 grains of powder in the 3" 1 1/4oz load compared to 37.8 in a Black Cloud load of the same weight. I didn't want to copy the info posted there but I wanted to at least link the picture of the wad that they are using in these shells. It isn't the same as the Black Cloud wad as near as I can see. Whether it can be used with the Wad Wizard remains to be seen. Aek

just checked out the info on refuge, i can live without 50% more recoil, i wasn't to keen to try it before i heard about that ! i dont know i just dont want to change what aint broke ! these flight controlled wads just dont sell to me your shooting a shotgun not a long range rifle, i can see how it can help with long range snow goose or canada goose hunting, but i dont need my shotgun to shoot any further !

The answer I received from WW basically is saying that this new Remington ammo is incorporating the same premise as the flight control wad of Federal. So then it is counter-intuitive and will not provide the best performance with the choke tube.. It will not cause any issues other than inconsistent patterns

I use the WW Swat choke for 90% of my shooting. I have patterned many loads and have found the patterns get worse as you increase the speed. 1450 fps patterns best, 1560 fps almost as good and 1635 fps not so well.
I would be interested in trying the 3.5' BB for Spring Snow Geese, but that's it. I will stick with my Kent 3.5" 1550's and 3" 1560's for everything else.

" Generally, we’ve found that ammo with 1600 fps or higher really doesn’t perform very well with our choke tube"

Thanks for looking into it Chezz. I've been considering a new load for 2010 and somewhere, one of the loads that I was considering stated that it was not compatible with wad-retention aftermarket choke tubes. Of course, I've been looking through my catalogs and mags since you posted your question, but no luck finding it. Anyhow - you've got your answer there - saved yourself a bundle! lol!
Ed - if I can get a chance to come by I'll take a few rounds from the box that you cracked and pattern them through optimachoke mod. If you haven't selected your sacrificial box yet, I'd like to test your 3.5" #2. If you never hear from me again, you'll know that the recoil was too much!
