Hi Guys, Anthony was asking me how birds should be prepared for taxidermy mounts. Field Care- once you shoot a bird carry it by its feet, never hold a bird by its neck - don't put it in a pile with other birds - try to wipe of blood if possible
Preparing Bird To Put In The Freezer -open beak and shove a paper towel in -close beak and wrap a paper towel around its beak (this covers nostrils where alot of blood can come out) I usually take masking tape and wrap it around the bill to hold the paper towel on - if you see blood on the bird wrap the area where blood appears with paper towel - fold the head over the back of the bird ( do not tuck under the wing this can damage feathers ) - put the bird in a plastic bag, make sure the tail is straight and wings are folded against the body - close the bag using masking tape or a twist tie - put the bird in another plastic bag this will help prevent freezer burn - for birds with a long tail ie. pheasant, pintail, oldsquaw, make sure the tail is straight not bent If anyone has any other questions don't hesitate to ask
