Headed out today with Oscar and Danny for pheasants. Weather was a little cool to start, but it was a real blue bird day. The snow required us to get a little creative, because the birds didn't hide in their normal places. Oscar managed to flush 8 hens and 4 cock. We picked up 2. Should have had 3, but I wasn't loaded on the first flush! What a great day to be out! I don't expect to get out again this year for pheasants.

Nice hunt! I was out for longtails too. Met some nice people, but didn't put up any birds myself. I took a bit of a chance going to a new area and ended up doing much driving, walking and not much real hunting, but that's the name of the game. My few spots are kinda dried up or the remaining roosters are very wary by now so I had to go snooping around. Oh well, it sure was a beautiful morning - with all the frost on everything. Nice job on the birds. -Croc

Very nice! Now are those phesants living out in the habitat year round and nest? or are they hen raised and released? I ask cause in QC, pheasnats are basically none existant except for on reserves.

Hi Whistler, There are one or two pheasant "preserves" in Nova Scotia, but those are (almost certainly) "naturalized" pheasants that were introduced to Nova Scotia decades ago an now survive and reproduce on their own. -Croc

Hey Anthony, I've got a phone number somewhere for a guy up in Elderbank called John Dillman. If you need it drop me a pm and I'll see if I can dig it up. -Croc
