All the training came together this weekend. Skye at the line with a 12ga shooter right over her head. Real birds being thrown at 75yards.
I blow the duck call and the bird is thrown. She focused intently on the falling bird as the gun goes off over her head.
Skye is sent on the single mark and retrieves the bird to hand.
She's ready for theseason and I couldn't be happier.

Skye is scratched off the roster foe 10 days while a wound she recieved today heals. We were hunting a fenceline today foe pheasants when she got a 2 1/2 in cut on her chest.
She is doing ok but is sidelined for a couple weeks.

Crap! Sorry to hear Anth. Always a hard balance to strike - you want a dog that's a go-er enough to keep you in the birds, but not such a savage as to constantly put you in the vet clinic! Oh well, at least it wasn't serious - skin heals! Did ya get any roosters? Poor old Ruby was a little too lame to hunt again today after a hard (and successful) day on Saturday. Rob and I each got ONE shot at a rooster, and in both cases they were accelerating broadside in 50 kph winds - challenging to say the least. I'm happy to report that we both remembered to lead the white ring by enough body lengths to make up for the speed that day, and dropped our roosters with the first shot. They were hard-won birds though, and the old dogs were both paying the price... Stitch her up and enjoy her while she's young! Croc

It had the makings of a good day. They had 3flushes in less than 20 minutes. First a hen, then a rooster that didn't offer a shot, and then Orion put up another rooster while I was tending to Skye. We had only worked about 400-500 yards of a fence line. Orion was on and Skye is learning.
