I've been thinking about starting a traveling decoy project for the upcoming season. The decoy would start out west (hopefully on the left coast with Jay) and work it's way east. Every time someone hunted with it they take pictures of the hunt and sign the base of the decoy with the name, date and location. They would then post a log entry on the site. After the hunt it is sent on to the next hunter by the most expedient means. At the end of the season it would be donated to a Delta chapter, probably the one with the most signatures, to be sold as a dinner auction item. I have an old hand carved cedar decoy to donate, it's old, but not antique and lost it's head to an eager pup but with a tune up it will suffice.
If you are interested please reply.

Brilliant idea! I'm in and so is the missus. She pointed out that the seasons may make it worthwhile to have it start on the east coast since I/we can hunt a few weeks longer out here. Whatever works best.

I'd rather go west to east for shipping and everything. When does your season start jay? My season starts the first week of September and ends at freeze up in late October/early November. The decoy will probably end up staying with Nova Delta too.

Season was Oct. 11 - Jan. 23 this year so I'm pretty flexible. Depending, this decoy could get in on a WIDE variety of hunts too.

they have been doing it for years on another duck hunting site except it is a finely crafted hand carved and painted wooden decoy,,they had some hang ups in the sheduling and the shipping by times screwed up deliver of the deke for a few trips that were planned...barring all the shipping woas it turned out great for us the readers as each trip was cataloged and recorded there deke if i remember correctly was auctioned off as well... sounds like a great ideal heres there latest deke with many miles on it ![](http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i81/BackwoodsBuddy/toys/travelingdecoy.jpg)

Take'em and I could put a hunt onto it on Dec 31 2009 on our annual "never again" float trip - or any time in late-season when it trickles it's way east. I want it before Chezz though - I've seen what happens to his dekes when a bird lands in them! Great idea - way to bring together waterfowlers from across the country! -Croc

This positive feedback is really getting me excited about the project. It also tells me that there would be interest in purchasing the decoy at a Delta dinner as well.

Like the travelling knome who had his picture taken all over the world - I like the idea however people being how they are and the road being paved by good intention. I would say it would be a real challenge to get the decoy from one hunt to another in sufficient time. With that said - yes sir i voted yes and am all for it.
